This is a great way to economize and still have mixes that are void of strange ingredients. I wore out my last book with mixture recipes, and this is a welcome addition to my kitchen. I've used the websites listed to purchase bulk ingredients for 30+ years. Preparing mixtures allows me to adjust recipes with the amount of salt, spicy ingredients, and things we may be allergic to -- while saving money. Now that we are older, I try to cut back on salt. Unfortunately, purchased mixes are heavily fortified with salt, which is a problem.

The Table of Contents is fully searchable, allowing me to jump to the correct mixture. This volume offers a wide range of spice mixture recipes. If there is a second edition, I suggest the author tell the reader how to use these mixtures. For example -- could you add the following to the recipe for Adobo Seasoning? The best way to use adobo seasoning is as a dry rub for roasted or grilled meats, but it also works well in stews and other braised dishes. You can use it for cooking any protein, including seafood and poultry, as well as chicken, pork, and beef. By adding that info, it makes each of the seasoning recipes more helpful to readers. Everyone doesn't know how adobo seasoning enhances foods.

After the seasoning mixes, the author offers a variety of other mixtures, including Salad Dressing and Dip Mixes, Beverage Mixes and Blends, Baking Mixes, Soup Mixes, Breading Mixes, and several miscellaneous Mixes (Enchilada Sauce Mix, Instant Cornbread Dressing, and Instant Oatmeal, for example). This is an excellent number of recipes for the money.
