This was just an ok book; a fast read. The book plods on throughout the story and nothing really interesting happens until you get to about 300 pages in. In a book of roughly 400 pages, that sucks! The last 100 pages then fly by in a whirl of activity and boom, the book ends.

I really enjoyed this nice romance about two real people (She worries about what to wear and then worries that she shouldn't be worrying about what to wear. He can handle being sheriff but gets tongue-tied when talking to the woman he likes.) falling in love. The small town and secondary characters add a lot, and it seems pretty clear that the next book will be his half-brother and her best friend falling in love. I'm looking forward to it!

Another one of LLM's great cowboys. I really like her brother/family books and how they work together and fight together.

Miller takes her time to tell her stories about mundane people falling in love. It is very simple and nothing outrageous happens. Yet it is enchanting.

The description of book is slightly misleading. Slade doesn't fall for Joselyn until after they meet up as adults again and his stepdaughter is not rebellious at all. Both characters work on their issues separately and find resolution in their own way. The fact they hook up is kind of just an aside.

Sweet story with more than enough of a lead towards the other books in the series: Hutch (Slade's brother) and Kendra (Joselyn's best friend) plus a few other possibilities.

Loved this book! Great new characters, and August seems like such a long wait for the next book...and January for the final is way too far off, but then I'll be done and sorry to have to leave Parable and it's fun, complex citizens.

After what had happened in the past, I found Joslyn's return to Parable odd, as did everyone who knew her. It was one thing for her to sell her business and liquidate her assets to repay the people who had lost money due to her scheming step-father. To move back was kind of hard to believe. But if she hadn't, then we would be missing getting to know Sheriff Slade Barlow and his half-brother, Hutch Carmody. I was taken with Slade's mother, Callie and his daughter Shea, plus the dog and cat, and ended up wondering why Lucy-Maude hadn't had her kittens, and wanting more Shea. She's such a great typical teen, rolling eyes and all.

I definitely recommend this. I don't think I have ever not loved a Linda Lael Miller book, and this horsey-western made for some lovely summer afternoon reading!
Living in Texas, I normally dread August, but this year I have a treat waiting for me...so hurry up and get here. I want more Parable!
