I love LLM's books but this one took me forever to finish. It is missing something and I had to make myself finish it. It need more spark***

I will try again with Boone's story.

While I love LLM's books, this one was OK. To me, at least, it kind of meandered around to the finish.

I agree with Regina's review that the Boone story was what I wanted to hear more about. And that of Opal and the new pastor. Interesting.

As other reviewers have noted, I liked this more for the small town feel, the delightful secondary characters, and how the hero interacted with children and animals rather than because it was a passionate romance. The heroine's reluctance to reconnect with her one true love was frustrating! I was happy to see a woman of faith presented as a normal part of daily life and not as a zealot. I think it's worth a read if you've already started the series because you get to see what's going on in the lives of the characters in book one, but agree that it isn't a great stand alone romance.

If you want a slow, easy, angst-free romance that is more about the small-town living and its residents rather than a romance between Hutch and Kendra, then this is the story for you. To be fair, there was some romance, it just didn't take off until more than halfway through the book. The beginning was entertaining with Hutch jilting his bride at the altar, but the rest was a slow burn in rekindling Hutch and Kendra's relationship. Sweet characters were sprinkled throughout the story, including the dogs, but I was more interested in reading more about Boone, the next in series. I was somewhat disappointed with this average read. Three stars.

Slightly disappointed in this book. It wasn't horrible but not great. For such a bad boy, Hutch's story was very tepid. There was a lot of repeated talking back and forth in Kendra's mind (the Kendra who wanted Hutch and the one who wanted to stay away). It didn't work and was kind of boring. And for all the history between Hutch and Kendra, it was never discussed. Miller tried to make the story deep towards the end but it turned out cheesy.

Really more interested in Boone and Tara plus Opal's story more.

After reading Big Sky Country, I really didn't like Hutch Carmody, so I wasn't sure how I'd feel with him as the romantic lead. I loved him. The book opens with him breaking things off with his fiance in the middle of the wedding ceremony. It soon becomes clear that this was the right decision, because there are still sparks between him and his old love, Kendra Shepherd. Hutch is the fantasy rough and rugged cowboy who can endear himself to all creatures great and small. It is very sweet, seeing the way he interacts with Kendra's daughter. Kendra is a strong woman, who has a newly adopted daughter. Despite many misunderstandings, it is clear the two care about each other from the beginning. Great love story.
