Saved by very unusual medical procedures she's part human and alien, which is good, mostly. We suffer through her love life, which is one of the things I truly didn't like. To me, her sexual encounter, first one, was almost rape. I enjoy many of the characters but not her ultimate love interest. Actually husband. Pretty good story though with some decent possible science thrown in. I like Viehls work and consider her pretty good but not great, yet. It is worth a read though.

This book is in the Stardoc series, but on a different planet and about different characters. More interesting aliens, nasty League enemies and lots of action.

If you enjoy Viehl's Star Doc series, you'll likely enjoy this one. The setting is the same as the Star Doc series and a few peripheral characters are in this one. As usual, there is a lot of romance (definitely leans toward the kind of scenes you expect in a "romance novel"). If you don't want, um, "things" graphically illustrated for you, you might not want to read it. Viehl's books are easier to read/understand than Czerneda's, another science fiction/fantasy writer who includes a lot of character development and romance-type plot lines.

All that being said, the book is a great read. There are several surprises, which is always a good thing. The characters are not "one note" and actually feel as if they could be someone I know. (Aside from being aliens. Then again...)

I didn't realize this was going to be different characters than the Stardoc series she has written but once I started reading it I found I liked it just as well.

I absolutely loved this book. The interaction between species and the different planets was refreshing and new to me. So I think I will read more of this series as it becomes available to me. Loved the Aquatic species and the interspecies relationships between "mouth-breathers" and Aquatics.
