I received this book as a Goodreads first-reads winner.
This is a hard book to review. I thought it started off a little slow but the premise of the story kept me going. When it got to the "meat" of the story where the characters were playing the game, it definitely got better. The changes to each of the six players as individuals and as a group were realistic and true to human nature if not enjoyable to read. I really liked the way the author told the story. I didn't rate it higher because I don't love the book - not because it wasn't good - more because it was hard to watch these young men and women do the things they did. I would recommend this book just not as a light summer beach book. I'm glad I got the chance to read it.

Unfortunately, this book just didn't do it for me and I will tell you why. For a time, I wasn't sure which of the 6 students was narrating in the present part of the book and I didn't love it. As far as the format of the book - there are parts being narrated in the present and then the back story being told in chronological order. There are NO chapters per say and roman numerals all over the place and I couldn't quite get the gist of them. I would have preferred if in editing there had been something inserted to allow the reader greater ease as to know when it was present and when it was back during the freshman year.

This book gripped me hard about 100 pages in and now that I'm finished, I honestly don't know how I feel. 6 college friends, bored, decide to create a game. Winner takes all. Things get out of hand and the 6 friends are now battling each other to survive. Jump ahead 14 years and they are still tormenting each other. Give this thriller a try and decide for yourself.
