WoW!! One of my favorite books of all time. Greg Iles is a gifted author. Historical suspense novel that will keep you going till the very end. History, suspense, murder, intrigue and romance all wrapped up in one amazing book. If you haven't read a Greg Iles book yet then this is an amazing book to start with you'll be reading all of his books like we're trying to.

I thought this was well written for a second novel. It picked up much quicker than his first (Spandau Phoenix) and remained a good read throughout. The characters are fully developed and colorful. The historical value is well inserted and his research obviously intense. For readers of high drama or historical fiction, this is an excellent read.
This was an excellent book. It was well written and the plot was intriguing.
A very interesting fictional historical novel.
It deals with WWII and some of the evil of that era.

After Dr. Mark (Mac) McConnell dies, his grandson discovers the American pacifist had served the war effort 50 years ago: D-Day is imminent when British Prime Minister Churchill learns that the Nazis have a "Black Cross" class of deadly nerve gases. The British coerce Mac, then a defensive chemical warfare researcher at Oxford, into accompanying a battle-hardened Zionist to execute a plan to convince the Germans that the British also have the gas. Mac and his accomplice must penetrate the German concentration camp where the gases are being developed and tested, then destroy the camp with the Allies' own tiny supply of Black Cross gas. Aided by a German nurse, they pull off the improbable plot. Like Iles's previous book, Spandau Phoenix (LJ, 4/15/93), this is graphically violent and fast paced, but it is more tightly written and better focused than that first novel, which was a New York Times best seller in paperback. A tribute to World War II valor and sacrifice, this suspenseful, above average thriller is recommended for popular fiction collections.--.

Excellent Nazi-era fiction. Big, involved, exciting -- I stayed up all night reading.

KEPT ME IN SUSPENSE.. SMITH WAS A DOG!!
Rarely do I keep a book. This one is that good.
A fantastic book! Non stop suspense and action. Takes you from present day back to WWII with a story of the Nazi development of Sarin and Soban poison gases and their potential use to stop the D-Day invasion. A great book.
one of his best. He never disappoints. I did not know that he had written world was 2 books & am looking for more of his early works.
