More than enough suspense to keep the reader interested--this is a page turner until the very end.

Good story. Well told. Lots of plot twists and turns.
This is the first in a three book "series" of sorts. One character is in all 3 books ... that's it. These books (all three of them) were so unimpressive I had to go back and read the comments about the book to even remember the stories. I did enjoy reading them at the time. It just seemed like they took forever to get through. I guess Ken Follet spoiled me with his "Fall of Giants and "Pillars of the Earth" his writing is unstoppable and easy to read even though these are 900 plus page books. Maybe it's not fair to compare Bonnie Hearn Hill to Ken Follet, but that just happens to be what I have read after her. I really enjoyed the book set in San Francisco, "Cutline" that one was my favorite of the 3 the last one "Off the Record" I don't think I finished it I was so excited to start Pillars after reading "Fall of Giants"
More than enough suspense to keep the reader intrigued
If it bleeds, it leads. It's a newspaper mantra - the most gruesome stories always run onthe front page to get people's attention. But when Corina Vasquez lands a bloody lead story, she sttracts the attention of a killer. In this engrossing story, Corina fights for her career, for love, and for her life!

When the body of the city's first woman mayor is found in a dusty vineyard, and her boss is nowhere to be found - Corina gets her chance.
Then a second brutal murder connects with the first. As she unearths the details around both killings, Corina begins to suspect that she's merely skimming the surface of a very deep conspiracy. And only one person can help her - acting mayor Wes Shew, the man who broke her heart.
Wes wants her back. Henderson wants her off the story. And as her reporting of the case thrusts her into the limelight, Corina realizes she's become a target for an unpredictable - and desperate- enemy.
