Of course, as the title suggests, the animals play an important role through her hero journey. The animals in the story are really made 3 dimensional and of course, play a pivotal role in Cami's story. You end up really love these highly visual animal characters in this story and there is at least one tear jerking scene (but it isn't about death, to relax those like me who hate those stories).
Not only is this story about Cami's journey through divorce and how she is saved by her animals and friends, but it is a comment on marriage and love in general. It comments on those, like Cami, who learn that marriage is hard work and can be worth that work. It's also about those that want to be married just for the sake of marriage. This is not only on the part of the woman, but the man as well. There is even a bit about arranged marriage. Plus, there is also a big commentary on gay marriage and adoption. All of this seems like a lot to put in a book, but the way it was done it fits well because it follows Cami's discoveries of those issues.
My only complaint is about her boyfriends. They are wonderful characters until she dates them. Then, they start to become one-dimensional caricatures of themselves. For example, I didn't believe that Vijay, her childhood best friend, was such an insightful person and true friend only to become a totally blind and selfish boyfriend so quickly and throughly. Vijay was my biggest disappointment.
I give this book 4 stars and I do recommend this book. I'm also glad that this book is based on animals that she knew in real life.

Enjoyable read about a woman's interesting and insightful journey to get beyond the inevitable feelings of bitterness and failure in a divorce to arrive at the healthy conclusion to "don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened".

This was such a heartwarming story - anyone who loves animals should read this. I love this author's writing style and character description. The story is about a woman's journey to rediscovering what she loves in life after her husband leaves her. Shows how not every marriage is meant to be and how when you finally make the painful decision to divorce it could be a great new beginning. I highly recommend this book.

This was a really great book, especially if you have a passion for animals. Throughout the years in which the main character endures quite a great deal of life hurdles, the unconditional love of her animals, as well as her close friends and family, give her the strength to get past these hurdles. This is certainly a fine example of the well-known cliche, "what doesn't kill you can only make you stronger."
Read this in three sittings. I enjoyed my last Katrina Kittle read and I was super excited when I saw this on the Crazy Book Tours website.
From the way she describes her characters and their settings to how they interact and the situations they find themselves in - her writing just draws you in and keeps you hooked. A woman battling through separation and divorce, as she tries to raise her teenage daughter and continue her growing veterinary business. I felt connected to these characters real fast and wanted so much to know what was going to happen next at every moment.
Telling a story about a woman who is going through such a large transition with friends surrounded was such a great positive twist. I loved that she had a great cast of characters that came in and out, but they also had their own distinct storylines that also kept me glued to it.
I would recommend this book to my lady readers who love a story that keeps you hooked from the first page to the very end.

A funny, poignant thoughtful story of love and marriage in all its complexity.
What an amazing book. I'm not going to give away the story, but it's about a woman's journey to find herself. It's very inspiring, I read it in two sittings. Highly recommend this book!
This book is awesome-a mix of love story, animal hair and antics, stirred with laughter and tears.
