If you are well-read in World War II history you will find this book fascinating. It is a good revisionist history of the War. In so many books about the WWII I've read, there have been snippets of information I've picked up on that weren't expanded, but which left me wondering.
Did you know the German lost more men in combat, after the Poles supposedly surrendered, then they did before the surrender? Did you know most of the French Air Force never saw action in the 1940 Battle of France? Did you know many of the French tanks were better than the German tanks? Or that American tank philosophy was that tanks weren't suppose to fight other tanks, which is why the American military could have, but didn't, develop tanks better than the Germans before the invasion of Europe. The list goes on.
But the author has put it all into one book. You may not agree with everything he wrote, as I didn't and why I just gave it four stars. The author is also a believer British General Montgomery was probably the best general on the Allied side. It would take an act of God for me to believe that.
Every war has its myths and World War II is no exception. To be really knowledgeable about WW II you need to read this book. The author also provides numerous citations for what he states.
And he also shows how the defeated German generals later fed the Allies lies about the war to make them satisfied with their myths. Hey, it always helps to keep your jailers happy, and it also helps you get your own mistruths accepted. This is something which wasn't a great surprise, as many of the more recent WWII historians have acknowledged it.
