Thriller by Robert Masello. In 1854 Eleanor Ames is a nurse with Florence Nightengale, who follows The British Army to the Middle East to tend to wounded soldiers. She is reunited with her Love, Lieutenant Sinclair Copley. They are forced to embark on a long journey. Then, present day, photojournalist Michael Wilde takes an assignment at the South Pole. The odds that the paths that three would cross are infinitesimal.... This is a well written, creative tale. Scary. Worth a credit. If you enjoy this book, recommend books by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. Worth a credit.
Michael Wilde has the chance of a lifetime to go to Antarctica as a photojournalist. He has many adventures and photo opportunities until he makes the biggest discovery of his career. While scuba diving in the ocean beneath Antarctica, he sees a woman frozen in the ice. A huge block of ice is cut around her and she is brought to the surface and put in a huge tank in order to melt the ice. The group of scientists leave her unattended while the ice melts. However when they return, the ice has melted, and Sleeping Beauty (as they are calling her) has disappeared.
This is a great adventure reminescent of Matt Reilly and James Rollins with a very surprising paranormal twist. The author has obviously researched the climate of the Antarctic and the special needs of anyone spending even the littlest time there. A great read and I wonderful author I will be reading again and again.

So, the book began promising enough. However, it quickly became predictable and long winded. I figured out everything before I got halfway through. Sometimes, this is OK, because it's still interesting to see how the author plays it out. But, here it was just boring and tedious.
Also, I was not a fan of how the characters treated the two "people" they found. I thought that could have been handled better. And keeping things from a person on whom there will be a major medical thing done is wrong. That is not consent. So, I hated that it played out this way. I lost all respect for the main character.
I started skimming 3/4 of the way through. I give it 2 stars. But, only because it had the potential to be really amazing.
