This plot seems like a retread of the last book, with Asher attempting to stop a foreign power - this time Germany - from recruiting vampires for war. Ysidro approaches Asher first time around, having had a letter from an old vampire in Europe telling him about the recruitment, but then she goes silent. So it's another round of dangerous travel, vampires and other capturing Asher, someone trying to create a vampire that can withstand daylight, Lydia trailing behind doing research and in danger herself. It's still good, very gripping and atmospheric, Asher and Lydia are a good couple and Ysidro still interestingly enigmatic.
