I loved the way it switches the perspectives to different characters in the novel instead of just from one point of view. The plot was interesting and the outcome was a bit of a surprise. All in all an ejoyable read.

The premise is very interesting--a young girl disappears from her own front yard. Told from the perspective of the girl's mother, her father, and the mother's best friend (an Episcopal priest), it had uneven places but on the whole was plotted well. There is a good bit about spirituality in this book (how one can maintain a relationship with God when one's child has been abducted, for example), which may appeal to some readers, and may turn others off.

I LOVED this book!! I had to remind myself everytime I picked it up not to look ahead to find out what happens. It definitely keeps you guessing and at the same time makes you think. I would most definitely recommend this book to anyone. One of the best I've EVER read!

I really enjoyed this book, it was hard not to look ahead to see what was going to happen. It starts with a little girl being kidnapped, but it's about so much more. Great writing with a poignant look at relationships and the choices we make.

When Dana comes into the entry way where she left her daughter and finds her 6 year old disabled daughter not there, she thinks she is hiding from her, one of her favorite things to do. After Dana searching the house, Baily is no where to be found and then her shoe is found in the street in front of the house. The theory is that someone angry that Dana's lawyer husband is defending an accused child killer has kidnapped Baily as punishment to Dana and her husband. Dana heads up a taskforce housed in her church to keep the public aware of Baily's kidnapping. 3 months later, Baily is found sitting on the front porch of her home, unhurt but will not speak. As the family tries to cope with Baily's selective mutisum and the publics anger at the lawyer who is defending an accused child killer, their lives start to unravel. I must admit, I had a hard time getting into the story at first, but soon became involved. It is a good book and let's us glimps into the characters lives and understand their pain.

I enjoyed this book, although I figured some parts of it out before it ended. It clealry made me think about choices and how those we make effect others. I would recommend this book.

This book was a very enjoyable read. Interesting story with a hint of mystery. This book will make you think about spirituality, justice, love, and how the choices we make can affect our lives forever. Author did a great job telling the story in a way that keeps you involved and keeps you wondering what really happened. I give it 4 out of 5 stars for an enjoyable and thought provoking novel.

Absorbing book about loss and friendship.
This was a great book with a shocking twist. I couldn't put it down and was very pleased with the writing style.
I really enjoyed this book. Though I knew from almost the beginning who had done the evil deed, it was still a very nice journey through intelligent writing to get to the end and the final payoff. It's worth a read!

I saw this book at walmart, picked it up and read it in a weekend. Enoyed it very much.
Any book about a missing child is gripping. This is no exception, except that as the novel moves along, the abduction seems to be more of a subplot. Instead, the book takes on the themes of marriage ennui versus passion for a near stranger, mental illness, and a good dose of faith as opposed to mere religion. Then we get a sub-plot of a very evil criminal, and whether it's ethical to give assistance and tolerate being near that person.

A Bitter Sweet Tale. Somewhat predictable at times as well as surprising. Interestingly twists and turns through several stages of life as seen through more than one's own set of eyes. How life shapes how we think and who we become and how we deal with healing our own self from lifes many choices and tradigities. In a word introspect.
