BLOOD SONG is the work of amazing duo C.T. Adams and Cathy Clamp, writing as Cat Adams.
In this story we meet Celia Graves, a bodyguard to the rich and famous who, although she is a regular human, knows about ghosts, demons, and other types of supernatural beings. While on assignment guarding a prince from a small European country, she is left wounded from a vampire attack.
This attack leaves her as an Abomination, not really vampire but not plain vanilla human, either. Celia must figure out her new limits, as well as destroy her maker before he can gain control over her - although this is the least of her worries.
Action, twists, and turns abound in this wonderful new series. The story flows like magic and the characters are very exciting. Celia Graves is definitely a character to watch.
For readers who are familiar with C.T. Adams and Cathy Clamp, I think they'll be surprised at this new take on the old supernatural creature story. For those who are not familiar with them, I believe they'll go back and find their other stories just to get another taste of such wonderful storytelling.
This book is what urban fantasy is all about: fast-paced, mysteries galore, and a main character who is stubborn beyond belief even in the face of stronger creatures. Reading this book was like going on a roller coaster ride where the lever broke off and they can't find the off switch.
Cat Adams has crafted a story that will have others taking notice and scrambling to craft a story just as good. I think this will be one of the best series we'll see this year, and I would expect nothing less from the dynamic duo called Cat Adams.

Blood Song by Cat Adams
* I received a copy of this book from Tor Publishing in exchange for an honest review*
Blood Song is the first book in a new series by Cathy Clamp and CT Adams. We are immersed in a world of supernatural that contains "bats," werewolves, clairvoyants, and telepaths just to name a few. It's set in California and is centered around Celia Graves.
Celia is a bodyguard for the rich and famous. She has a degree in paranormal studies but she thinks she's just a plain vanilla human. She is armed with holy water, bespelled knives, special made clothing, and guns when she heads out to do a job. Her latest job is to guard Prince Rezza along with a handful of other bodyguards while he is visiting California. She feels uneasy about the whole job from the beginning and is justified when they are ambushed outside a club.
Celia wakes up in the lab at the University to find out that she was attacked by a vampire and is now an Abomination, part human and part vampire. Throughout the book she is struggling to learn her limitations, dealing with her mother issues while trying to find out who wants her dead.
There are several attempts on her life and she is determined to live. With the help of her friends and ex-boyfriend Bruno, she uncovers a political struggle for Rusland. The King visits Celia and asks for her help to determine which son is involved.
Celia may be tough with a take charge attitude but she had a rough road to get there. She has very serious mother issues that she is having trouble getting past. Her mother was really never there for them when she was a child and she had to depended on herself and her grandmother to take care of her. She finds out from her grandmother that she is part siren and is shocked to the core. Now not only is she dealing with being an Abomination but add her siren blood to the mix and she's even more confused.
There are a lot of interesting characters introduced that add a lot to the story. Kevin is her best-friend and he is a werewolf, her ex-boyfriend is a mage and her best friend is a clairvoyant. The relationships between Celia and her friends are complex and interesting. They help add depth to the story and make you want to keep reading to see what is going to happen next.
The story itself is very interesting. It's a different twist on the normal paranormal world and includes mystery, intrigue and political espionage. It's very fast paced but stays on focus even though there are several things going on concurrently. It is very different from the Sazi series that CT Adams and Cathy Clamp also write but no less enjoyable.
I really liked this Urban Fantasy story and can't wait to read Siren Song the second book in the series. I give this book 3 1/2 flaming hearts.

Good urban fantasy with strong characters and unusual twists and turns 4 stars
Really enjoyed this one. My review is up at http://goodbadandunread.com/2010/07/15/review-blood-song-blood-singer-series-book-1-by-cat-adams/
A great beginning to a new series. The characters are interesting and the plot keeps you guessing. Am anxious to read more from this author
This was something different from what I normally read, but I have to say I really enjoyed it. It was a fun, fast read and I will definitely read the next book in the series!
Celia Graves owns a bodyguard businesses in a Los Angeles where vampires, werewolves, psychics, clairvoyants and mages rub shoulders with humans. On her latest guardian job, her associates are killed and a master vampire attacks her. She is now an Abomination; half mortal and half vampire. She needs all of her enhanced friends to help her.
I very much enjoyed getting to know Celia and her gifted friends in this new urban fantasy. She has trust issues, is surrounded by violence, doubts herself and is very funny.
I read it in one sitting. Highly recommended to anyone.

It's the story of Celia, a bodyguard who lives in dangerous times in a dangerous world, surrounded by supernaturals. One of her assignments goes horribly wrong and she gets bitten by a vampire [aka âbatâ]. And vamps in this world are nothing like the sparkly ones: even if humans suffer other kinds of âothersâ, none suffers bats. So when said vamp bites Celia and his attempt to turn her leaves her a kind of half-vampire [tenderly called âabominationâ by the rest of the supernaturals], Celia's life takes a notably turn to the worse. Although she is not staked at sight, people fear and mostly shun her from then on. And aside from the heightened senses and strength, there are a great many downsides, the need for sun-protection factor 50 and liquid nourishment, being among the least of them. Problemis that the assault against her wasn't an accident,
I really enjoyed this one. It was slow at times, but I attribute that to the world-building. My big "thing" was: could Celia get a break?! She seriously had bad thing, after bad thing thrown at her; both as an adult and a child. Holy crap. Looking forward to the next one.
Guarding a member of a royal family, Celia Graves and her associates are lured into an alley. They are mercilessly attacked and all are killed except Celia. She is attacked by a rogue vampire and nearly drained. She is saved by two werewolves, one of whom is a great friend of hers.
Celia is not a full vampire but an abomination. As such, she is half human and still has her soul, heart and mind.
Great beginning to a new series. Lots of action and wry humor.
