Alan Furst has quite a cult following, and keeps churning out novels with similar settings - early WW II. The plots are pseudo espionage, and blend together. Everything ends well after various mysteries. Even the NYT seems to review him well.
My mother, who was in college during the war, loves his books. Just the right amount of hints of sex and violence for her, apparently. So it depends on your taste.

I enjoy Furst's novels. But if I had read this one first, I would never have read any of his others.
