Axewell, son of Theirsh, is a loner who lost everything he cared about during the raids. As a new recruit in the Black Dagger Brotherhood's training program, Axe sees fighting with the brothers as his destiny. To make a little money on the side, he takes a job as a bodyguard to Aristocrat Elise. Elise's father is over protective. He worries about his daughter attending college in the human world. Emily is fascinated by Axe and wants to get to know him better. Axe believes that she deserves better than a male with no family.
I love a tortured hero and Axe fits the bill. He and Elise strike sparks at their first meeting and can't keep their eyes (and hands) off of each other. I liked their story and was happy the big misunderstanding didn't last too many pages.
The other half of the book is a continuation of Rhage, Mary, and their adopted daughter, Bitty. Just when they've come together as a family, someone from Bitty's bloodline shows up to claim her. I loved this story and had no idea how this part of the story would be resolved. Kudos to the author for a fantastic resolution. My rating: 5 Stars.

I love this series. It has it all: suspense, love, secrets, violence, etc. I missed having Wrath and his shellan not make more of an appearance in this book. Hopefully we will see more of them in the next. All in all a very good read--was sorry to see it end!
