Patricia Cornwell is going downhill fast, or should I say she's gone downhill fast. Her early books were entertaining and well written, this book is full of poor grammar and written at such a juvenille level that I found it laugh out loud funny. I used to be a huge fan of the Scarpetta series, but with this latest book, I'm off the bandwagon. The good news that if you get it here, you won't have spent any money. I belive this book would be great for leveling a crooked table.

Forensic pathology is such a riveting type of book to read when it's done by Patricia Cornwell. She's a great storyteller and you learn something from each book.

Not the best Patricia Cornwell, this is OK but a bit tired, I prefer the earlier ones , they have more life--if you'll pardon the pun.

With her knowledge of state-of-the-art forensics and investigative techniques that have made her America's most alluring crime writer, Patricia Cornwell once again brings to life a world both frightening and irresistibly compelling. This is good book

This book is another in the Kay Scarpetta (forensic pathologist) series. After putting Jean-Baptiste Chandonne beinhd bars in the last book, she is forced to confront his brother in this one. As she chases him through Louisiana and the South. She must use the help of the killer to find his brother in a way that puts her uncomfortably close to him. I enjoyed it but this wasn't as good as the first few.

Patricia Cornwell's first several books were nearly impossible for me to put down, they were THAT good. This one though, while it was suspenseful and interesting at first, towards the end had that "Aw, come on!!!" moment. It had potential, but just didn't live up to her earlier novels.

This was intriguing but left too many unanswered questions at the end for me. What happened to Lucy? What will become of the relationship between Kay and Benton? I don't know if there is another book after this one, but I would hope so, for those of us who need a little more closure. All in all, it was a page-turner, but rather a let down at the end.

By far the worse book I read in 2004. The character of Kay Scarpetta is inconsistant with previous books. She spends most of her time being bitchy and paranoid. 3 1/2 years after reading this book it still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. I loved Cornwell's Scarpetta and earlier books. I always recommended them. After reading this, however, I have not managed to force myself to pick up another one. It's a shame.

I enjoy suspense and the few Scarpetta novels I've read. This was a quick read, yet offered interesting characters, and a few twists. Many of the characters were well developed, but the story was a bit broad in scope. I felt it was more of a cleanup and setup: clean up older story lines, and get the reader ready for the next book. Of course, it's easy to be a critic when you're done reading. But, it was hard to put the book down. ~~Laurie

I really like the meat of PC'c books, this is no exception, characters, plot and story are all enjoyable and well thought out. Unfortunately PC continually falls flat on ending the books. No exception here. She tends to lay out the perfect story and details thoughout all but the last 1/2 of the last chapter and then seems to do a oh no have to get this to my editor , how do I end it, PLOP, there is the end. Have stopped reading her entirely because of the continual disappointment in the final few pages of her books.

As always, Kay Scarpetta does it again. This is the book following "The Last Princinct.Settling into her new life as a private forensic consultant, Kay Scarpetta agrees to investigate a cold-case in Louisiana-the baffling eight-year-old murder of a woman with a history of blackouts and violent outbursts. Then she receives news that chills her to the core: Jean-Baptiste Chandonne-the vicious and unrepentant Wolfman, who pursued her to her very doorstep-has asked to see her. From his cell on death row, he demands an audience with the legendary Dr. Scarpetta. With her friends and family by her side, Scarpetta tries to guess what sort of endgame this madman has in mind-how, if at all, it's related to the Lousiana case-and then confronts the shock of her life: a blow that will force her to question the loyalty and trust of all she holds dear....

Much too gory details, sadistic crime, and rather boring writing. Not the author for me.

In BLOW FLY, Scarpetta stands at the threshold of a new life after her work as Virginia's Chief Medical Examiner has come to a jarring end. At the close of THE LAST PRECINCT,she knew she would have to leave Richmond if she were to find any peace. She feared she was about to be fired by the Governer. More alarming, she was hounded in the media and in the courtroom ,for what some claimed was her involvement in the murder of a deputy police chief. So Scarpetta packed up her belongings and set out for the warmth and solace of the Florida Sun.

My personal comments. Very gruesome. Hard to read and not have a sick stomach. If you can handle gruesome stories then it will be fine. A truly great story.

This entry in Cornwell's long-running series cedes Medical Examiner Kay Scarpetta's spotlight role to her fiery crime-busting niece, Lucy, and Marino, the opinionated Richmond detective. Kate Reading's low, comfortable voice and good impersonations are a perfect fit for Cornwell's wild plot twists and calculating psychopaths. Reading convincingly renders each of the characters, male and female, sane and insane, with an appropriate frisson of fear.

Standard Cornwell and Kay Scarpetta: The doctor has left the medical examiner's office, but the past hasn't left her behind. A former case - that of the French wolfman - is resurrected when Jean Baptiste Chaconne asks to see Scarpetta as he awaits his death sentence. What's his plan and does it relate to her current case?

From Publishers Weekly: ""Please don't go there. The past is the past," sighs New York Assistant District Attorney Jaime Berger, who herself was introduced in Cornwell's last Kay Scarpetta novel, The Last Precinct (2000). Alas, many of Cornwell's fans are bound to agree. One fascinating nonfiction bestseller (Portrait of a Killer: Jack the Ripper, Case Closed) later, Cornwell now returns to Scarpetta, formerly Virginia's chief medical examiner. From the start, however, the formidable author is up against the equally formidable task of getting her charismatic main character off ice and back in action. We encounter Scarpetta languishing in a crumbling little rental house in Florida. She has taken refuge there and become a private forensic consultant after she was driven from her job for her alleged involvement in the murder of a deputy police chief. The violent death of her lover, Benton Wesley, the brilliant FBI psychological profiler, has left her filled with an unappeasable grief. When the coroner in Baton Rouge asks her advice on a cold case concerning an affluent woman found dead of a drug overdose in a seedy hotel, it seems little more than a diversion. Yet it becomes clear that the overdose may be related to a fresh string of serial killings. Also disturbing Scarpetta's somber peace is a troubling letter from someone out to kill her, the sick and obsessed death-row inmate Jean-Baptiste. When Scarpetta is at last allowed to get back to business, she is a feisty, independent powerhouse whose capacity to concentrate and observe rivals Sherlock Holmes's. But too much of this book is bound up in retrospective musings about events in previous books. The great Scarpetta, her fiery crime-busting niece, Lucy, and a colorful supporting cast deserve better." Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information, Inc.
