Excellent thoughtful science fiction. But be warned. Many of John Varley's writings are positive and uplifting. This, on the other hand, is a collection of short stories that are ultimately rather depressing. So, read it but not when you're down unless that works for you. :-)
This is vintage John Varley and well worth a read by any fan of sci-fi. Loan it to a friend, but make sure you get it back so you can read it again someday!
