In some ways a sad book, but very engrossing mystery. Enjoyed it quite a bit. I am not generally a fan of "series" but would like to read a follow up...

It was refreshing to read a mystery with an older protagonist. The characters are so well drawn that I was completely absorbed in this book and hated for it to end.

tim Hess is a semiretired veteren cop staring at a death sentence--his own. Detective Merci Rayborn, young enough to be his daughter, is brash, impatient, and not someone from whom Hess wants to be taking orders. He certainly isn't planning on falling in love with her.....
Together they must track down a physopathic killer who's been abducting beautiful young women from the malls of Orange County.Dubbed the Purse Snatcher for the chilling way he he brags about his shockingly distinctive crimes, he is T> Jefferson Parkers most original creation yet

Superb! My first Jeff Parker book, but certainly not my last. Solid realistic characters, a conversational style very easy to read, and plot turns and twists that will leave your mouth wide open. It doesn't get much better than this.

Another great book by Parker (does he write any not great ones?). This one has an unlikely team of detectives but somehow he makes it believable and works wonders with character development. Surprise and somewhat upsetting ending but even that works. Highly recommended police procedural mystery.

Tim Hess is a retired cop, fighting lung cancer, who's called back to active duty to find the diabolical killer who "signs" his murders by eviscerating his victims. His boss and partner in the investigation is an attractive, brusque detective named Merci Rayborn, who quickly dismisses the lone suspect in the case, a paroled, chemically castrated Romanian rapist living under virtual house arrest in an apartment complex near the latest crime scene. Hess stays on the rapist's trail, though, tracking an embalming machine that may be part of the killer's bizarre m.o., but by the time the clues come together, Merci is in murderous hands.

I just couldn't get into this one.

It is just filled with pages of 'junk', just stuff you don't need to know and is of no use to the story.

I didn't like Merci either AT ALL!
