What a fun book this is! Gemma Doyle, possibly an ancestor of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, is co-owner of The Sherlock Holmes Bookshop and Emporium along with her Great Uncle Arthur. The adjoining Mrs. Hudson's Tea Room is where her best friend, Jayne Wilson (part owner with the Doyles,) is the chief cook, pastry and bread maker. What's interesting about Gemma is she deduces things very quickly like the fictional Sherlock and has about the same tact which lands her in a lot of trouble. In this case the assistant of a wildly popular writer who does a takeoff on the Sherlock Holmes characters calls to ask if she could have her there for a signing the next day. Gemma can't believe her good luck! Then things start to go south, so to speak. It's a lot of fun finding out the secrets of a lot of the writer's entourage. Some I would never have guessed. There is some violence, though not too grisly. There is some romance but nothing too explicit. And there is just the right amount of comedy. All in all it is a well written book about people we are starting to care about.
