Part of a historical trilogy - The Bodyguard, After the Kiss, and Captive. All three are wonderfully written, very powerful stories. This one evokes Sleeping Beauty (very loosely) - The Duke of Blackthorne looses his memory when his ship sinks (and he is attacked). While trying to recover his memory, he is hired to be a bodyguard for the laird. Katherine is the appointed laird - until she marries, and her clansmen all want the position of her mate. However, she only has eyes for her bodyguard. Too bad she is feuding with the Duke of Blackthorne...

Joan Johnson really gives her character strong personalities and normal humans an assumed supernatural abilities. A quick read and predictable ending.
Regency Scotland, where the new laird Katherine finds she needs a bodyguard to deal with her unruly clansmen. A hunky stranger volunteers...mystery, zing, romance- it's all in the story!
