The Bogeyman .... a child's worst nightmare, a mother's worst fear. Awesome book! An old murder mystery, a new murder, a little paranormal and a little romance. This book has it all!

I loved this book. This is about a mother and 4 year old daughter who moves into a new home after the husband passes away. Daughter has some strange dreams after they move in and a psychologist thinks it is from the father passing away. The mother finds out there was a child murdered 25 years ago and thinks the dreams and the murder are related. Very good book.

My first Gayle Wilson book . . .

The writing was excellent and the plot was great. Blythe, a young widow, returns to her hometown to raise her 4 year old daughter, Maddie. The safety and comfort of home is short lived when unexplained happenings strike home. Blythe is reminded of a 20 year old murder of a young girl that has remained unsolved. Is the ghost of that young girl using Maddie as means to uncovering her killer? Blythe and the handsome sheriff work together to solve the mystery and protect young Maddie.

Now, if I liked the book so much, why 3 stars? Well, Blythe does some pretty stupid things that just irritated me at every turn. If you are a fan of the Walking Dead you will understand my claim that Blythe watches Maddie like Laurie watches Carl. Both of them gals need kicked in the rear. This fact isn't enough to turn me off this author.

So I've seen that this book has gotten a lot of positive feedback and I was even told by a coworker who saw I was reading it that it was very good but I have to disagree. The book has the potential to be good but it's very poorly executed, my coworker said the ending was a big surprise and I'd have to agree because it makes no sense. There are a noticeable amount of typos and it seems as though the book just can't choose if it wants to be a ghost story or a murder mystery.
The main character is about 30-ish, an adult woman, so why is it she struggles to move the lid of the well but we're expected to believe a four year old went all this way pushed the top back, climbed in, then somehow put the top back on? The killer has no motive it's just completely random there are just so many issues with this book but if you read without being too critical of things you may enjoy and if so good on you, but this book was really awful to me.
There are many more examples of why this book is bad but I don't want to spoil anything for the people that want to read it.

A child's worst nightmare. A mother's worst fear.

A year after the death of her husband, Blythe Windham moves with her four-year-old daughter, Maddie, back to the small town where she grew up. But soon after they move in to their new home, strange things begin to happen. Maddie has disturbingly intense nightmares -- so intence that Blythe fears one night she may not be able to awaken her daughter. A psychologist explains that Maddie's dreams are simply the result of her father's death, but Blythe knows something else is wrong. Because she's also heard the ghostly tapping at her daughter's window . . .

Convinced the house is haunted, Blythe researches the town's history and discovers that a little girl had been brutally murdered in the area twenty-five years ago. Could there be some connection between this dead child and Maddie? With the help of Sheriff Cade Jackson, Blythe tries to separate past horrors from present dangers and struggles to distinguish the real from the imagined. But someone is clearly determined to keep a secret -- and will kill again to do so.

When a young window returns to her home town with her daughter, she is pulled into a living nightmare of old crimes, new threats, and what seems to be a very realisting haunting. It's a genuinely scary book, but once The Bad Guy is revealed, his motives don't really ring true.
