The Bone Clocks by David Mitchell follows the story of Holly Sykes from her rebellious teenage years into her old age and in the context of the role she unwittingly plays in a centuries old conflict. Some sections of the book read better then others, but overall, a bit of magic and fantasy combined with Holly's gritty life story make for a great read.

I struggled to read this book for over 200 pages before giving up. The author can't seem to keep the story going or interesting and gets off on long tangents. The beginning grabbed my interest and this could have been a great book but it completely died in the middle.

This book was interesting, frustrating and at one point difficult to read. I found one section hard to plow through and I still don't understand why the author included it. Hence, my rating of three stars rather than four because I couldn't see why that section was written. It didn't seem to add much to the story and was slow moving and didn't mean much except that later in the book the reader discovers that Holly, the primary character, was probably in love with the author. He was probably in love with her, too, but what the hey life goes on and Holly had love with Ed whose death changed her life so dramatically.

I liked the concept and enjoyed most of the book.
