By the author of Gunmetal Black, Serrano weaves us another tale of the gritty city. This time it is NYC and we have Detective Cassandra Maldonado who wants to get into the elite Homicide squad (HI-PRO) in the NYPD. She makes it and the next day lands a high profile case involving the killing of a very famous Hip-Hop/Rap artist named FYSHBone worth millions. He is gunned down sadistically on the street by his studio in the Bronx and his trademark million dollar necklace has disappeared. With more questions than answers, she and her partner set out to find the killer.

With lots of suspects they have their work cut out for them. Det. Maldonado has trouble from the word go as to the way she ended up in HI-PRO and her son is autistic with very special needs and no father around to help. When she is demoted, as luck would have it, that is what leads her to the killer of FYSHBone.

A fast paced read about the streets.
