What a great story of friendship! As usual, Mary Alice Monroe has written an engaging tale with well developed unforgettable characters! A nice easy read! I hated to see it end. I felt like I had become a member of "The Book Club"!

This book is about a group of women who become great friends because of a book club that they form. It is a good story line and a quick read. And the characters are believable and lovable. I guess I just wish the author had developed them over a longer time frame. Overall, I really did enjoy the book.

This book is an awesome read! I read this with an online book group and we got to chat with Mary Alice Monroe about it. You will laugh, cry, and scream with the characters. It will touch your life in a way that you will continue to think about it long after you turn the last page. They will become your best friends. I highly recommend this book. I have my copy and I won't let it go.

This is an excellent book about 5 friends as they go through life transitions. The book club is where they meet to discuss not only the current book, but to discuss their lives. This book is about friendship, loss, honesty, change, aging and love. I would recommend this book highly. Sorry to see it end...will definitely read more of Monroe's books.

I thought this would be a little "fluff" to read after i had spent a few nights reading some serious stuff--this kept me awake and up too!! I could not put this down. I found it so easy to read and liked the concept of the story of the five women that i got to meet.I just did not want to turn out the light and close the book. Each woman has a story to tell and each story just pulled me into the pages. All five women are connected by a book club that they attend once a month, so it really isn't about book reviews perse, but about the lives and how they become friends thru love, loss, jealousy, and just plain ole life lived behind closed doors. Fascinating read which leaves you with much to think about and makes you want to call your girlfriend and tell her how much she means to you. Loved this book.

It's not so much a book club as a support group for women. No women should be without a support group. Very touching.

Women so real you think they could be sitting across the table from you at a restaurant. Well -developed tale of five friends and how they cope over the course of a year that brings widowhood, divorce, a parent returning to town, and much more. Worth the time.

Mary Alice Monroe is an entertaining writer. Sometimes her prose is a little contrived, but she populates her books with familiar and interesting characters. This one offered some food for thought.

I enjoyed every page of this book! I love stories about relationships between women, what makes them tick, what makes them click. She delves into the personal, family, and professional lives of these women in a way that is easily relatable. Your heart breaks as each of them, with seemingly perfect lives, goes through their trials and tribulations. In the end, they are always there for each other.

On the surface, it is a monthly book club. But for five women, it is something infinitely more precious: a lifeline to hang on to and a chance to share their hopes, fears and triumphs. There is Eve, whose husband's sudden death has turned her safe little world upside down; cheating her out of every security that she had assumed was hers. Annie is a brilliant attorney who at 43 decides to have a baby, but all the determination in the world cannot change the cold reality of nature.

Doris, forced to acknowledge her dying marriage, will find the ultimate freedom through her husband's betrayal. Gabriella, the "perfect" wife, mother and friend, is afraid to ask for support for herself even as she offers such support to those around her. Finally, there is Midge - an artist who has always lived her life against the grain - but she suddenly feels like a stranger to the very people who should know her the best. These five women are women in transition and as they embrace the challenge of change, they will hold fast to the true magic of their book club - friendship.

Mareena was the one who found this book for me at our local library's book sale. I was intrigued by the book's plot because I love books that delve into people's relationships and the intricacies of women's friendships. This is the first time that I read The Book Club by Mary Alice Monroe and I am delighted to discover that she has written more books. I give this book an A+! and am immediately going to put Mary Alice Monroe on my TBR pile.

What a wonderfully written novel about the closeness, support and sometimes cruelty 5 friends can share. "The Book Club" is the central thread that keeps these women connected, encouraginf them to stay open to new ideas and expereinces. Through friendships the reader has had over the years, the charaters could have portrayed real women. A compelling read.

Another great book by Mary Alice Monroe. Her books always flow easily, and make you want to keep reading. This book is more about the woman in the book club, what is happening in their lives and doesn't talk much, if at all really, about the books they are reading. Would recommend reading.

Slow to get started but picked up as the characters developed. 5 middle age women in a book club go through various ups and downs in life but their friendship helps them through it all.
