The book is from 1974 and doesn't have any glossy pictures. But it is a classic, describing various aspects of Middle Eastern cuisine, history, and culture. There are quotes from cookbooks dating to the Middle Ages. Examples of the culture, both good (remarkable hospitality) and bad (a song of lament on the birth of a daughter).
