My dad is 92 and fading fast. I don't think he will last out January with his failing kidneys, cancer everywhere, and congestive heart blockage. Thankfully he is not in any discomfort and his attitude is pretty amazing. He is old enough to have reached a certain comfort level with the idea of death and is not frightened or anxious, but we are moving him into hospice next week and he has been unhappy about having to give up his car and his apartment. To keep his spirits up I have been reading him "Unbreakable" by Laura Hillenbrand, an absolutely incredible and beautiful story of determination and resilience set during World War II. For music, I am playing him Catharine Russell's wonderfully cheerful New Orleans-style jazz album, "Inside This Heart of Mine". It's been a combination that has worked for my dad, so I am suggesting it to others who may be supporting a dying parent as well.
Best Wishes to all, and courage!
