This was my first graphic novel and I had no idea how to rate the book having nothing to compare it to. So I checked out the reviews on amazon where the graphic novel connoisseurs gave it high marks and Publishers Weekly called it a "stunningly conceived and executed comic opus". So the conclusion I arrived at is that I obviously don't appreciate graphic novels. It did nothing for me. It was a great big dud. Warning: this book is not for children.
