It was a wonderful book , full of insights into the player's minds and spirit
This book receives some snark for its sentimentality, but I feel that it reserves a right to be sappy about this legendary MLB franchise and time period in the history of the sport. Known as a quintessential baseball read, engaging and entertaining from start to finish.
I can take baseball or leave it-but my friend asked me to read this --so what could i do??? Hey this was a good book. It is really two books in one. It tells the story of youth and baseball and their dreams and about what happens when the players get older. It is about the Ole Brooklyn Dodgers National League baseball team and is very well written. I may like baseball from now on. I did learn about this sport and now have a better respect for it--this coming from me who doesn't care for sports is a high compliment. Very good read i must say.
I was able to gain insight into the Brooklyn Dodgers baseball team of the late 1940's and 1950's. Enjoyed the interviews with the key players and knowing what they were doing approximately 20 years after retirement.
A great story. Probably means a lot more to me than some of the younger people, since I lived through that time period. There are some ugly parts in the story, but then again, there are ugly things in our everyday lives.
