Connelly scores a one-two knockout punch with this sequel to The Lincoln Lawyer featuring defense attorney Mickey Haller. After getting shot in the last book, Mickey's recovery in the last 2 years has been set back by an addiction to painkillers and rehab. Now that he's clean he's ready to get back to work, and is surprised to be named successor to a murdered colleague's practice. One of the cases he inherits is a high-profile case of a movie producer accused of killing his philandering wife and her lover. But as Mickey's investigation progresses, there is a real danger that his murdered friend's killer will come after him too. Detective Harry Bosch is on the case, and is more than willing to use him as bait to catch the culprit.

This book moved along at a faster pace than the first, and although I was at first disappointed at how little Harry Bosch is used in the story, I guess it's not surprising as it's Mickey Haller's story after all. And what a story! Connelly keeps the suspense up throughout, and delivers a surprising twist at the end. Then, when the reader is just recovering from that, hits you from left field with another stunner. About the only thing that prevented a 5-star rating from me is that I couldn't call it mind-boggling. But it's another excellent thriller from a favorite writer and I just hope that he can come up with more Mickey books, despite the ending.

This sequel to The Lincoln Lawyer is amazing. The plot twists and turns and the characters, the settings, the dialogue and the ending is just outstanding.
Mickey Haller is a criminal defense attorney who knows the truth about his clients. He's recovering from being gut shot in a previous Connelly book when he inherits the cases of a former rival who was murdered. Taking the bull by the horns, Haller sorts the cases and quickly latches on to the most profitable one, that of a Hollywood Studio tycoon named Walter Elliot. Enter Harry Bosch, another of Connelly's characters, although in a somewhat lesser role. Still, the chemistry is good if volatile and the plot never slows down.

What I enjoyed most about this book was the honesty of Haller. So many bad things have been written about lawyers and their motivations that it was interesting to hear their side of the story. And it made me think, which is one of the things I look for in every book I read.

Thus, Connelly had me from the first page to the last, in and out of court as well as on the street. Justice is served in this book, though not always from the bench, which is a reflection of the world in which we live.

Connelly shifts from the police department to the courtroom in this follow-up to The Lincoln Lawyer featuring Mickey Haller with plenty of Harry Bosch moments thrown in. A lot of fun for those who have read many in the Connelly series and now get to see these two protagonists intersect. Strong plot but not as clever as The Lincoln Lawyer.

3.5 stars out of 5.

I'll admit it: I love Michael Connelly! The addition of a new character in Mickey Haller seems to be successful. I like him almost as well as Harry. I really think Connelly is the best mystery writer around today.

Sequel to Lincoln Lawyer. Although there's nothing in that story that is required knowledge for reading and enjoying THIS book, I still recommend reading LL first. There are references to events that happened in LL, and I think it was a richer and more enjoyable experience knowing these small details when reading Brass Verdict.

This story teams up Mickey Haller and Harry Bosch, two of my favorite Connelly characters. Compelling story with some surprising twists.

this was the first Michael Connelly book I ever read and now I've read at least a dozen. I normally do not like lawyer books (I've just had enough John Grisham, thank you very much) but this was excellent. There is real tension and the ending was a surprise.

This is the 2nd Mickey Haller book. It picks up a couple of years after the first book ended. Mickey is back in court and hasn't changed. Lots of action, plot twists and turns and good characters. These are very good, tense mysteries but much lighter than Mr. Connelly's other series- Harry Bosch police detective.

With the intensity of Echo Park, this book moves along at a fast clip that keeps the reader engaged and alert to the next move. Michael Connelly, what can I say? The twist at the end is a feel-good surprise even if I might have seen it coming - or maybe just hoped for.

Perhaps not my favorite Bosch but damn good! Having read all of MC's work I usually end up longing for more about my favorite detective since Lew Archer, Harry Bosch. But alas the work, until near the end, focuses on the doings of Harry's half brother, Mickey Haller, an attorney who I would love to have on my side.

Good courtroom action and lots of inner workings about how attorneys get things done. Not quite in the 'Can't put it down category' but worthy of our time. I just want more about Bosch....

Another great book by Connelly. This one links Harry Bosch and Mickey Haller (The Lincoln Lawyer) in a suspense-filled murder investigation and trial. A bit slow-moving but held my interest throughout and the ending was superb. I felt as if I were in the courtroom during the trial scenes. Highly recommended.

Harry Bosch and Mickey Hallert come into accidental meeting and end up having to work together to find a killer. Mickey is back after a year's sabbatical and although he planned to slowly get back to work, he ends up with 31 cases all at once when his colleague ends up murdered. The trick is to avoid getting killed himself. Great exciting read and about 5 twists in the plot.

Attorney Mickey Haller is just getting back to work when a judge calls him for a meeting. She informs him that his friend, Defense Attorney Jerry Vincent, was found murdered. Mickey has just inherited all of Vincent's active cases, including the high profile defense of Hollywood Producer Walter Elliot, who is accused of murdering his wife and her lover. Mickey sees this murder case as a case that could make him a household name. Detective Harry Bosch contacts Mickey to talk about Vincent's cases. He believes there is something in one of those cases that could explain Vincent's murder. He is also worried that Mickey may be the next target.

This book is a nice combination of two murder mysteries. Mickey is trying to get his client off of a murder wrap, even though the client keeps lying about exactly what happened the night of the murder. We also have Harry Bosch investigating the death of Jerry Vincent. Why was he killed? Did it have something to do with the Walter Elliot case?

I thought this was a very entertaining story. I was very surprised by the end of the story. I really like having both of Connelly's popular characters in the same book. My rating: 4.5 Stars.

First Line: Everybody lies.

Mickey Haller is just about to make his courtroom conduct when fellow defense attorney and friend Jerry Vincent is murdered. Vincent names Haller as the attorney he wants to take over any open cases he may have, and Vincent has one case that could put Mickey on Easy Street: the defense of Walter Elliott, a Hollywood studio head accused of murdering his wife and her lover.

As Haller prepares for this case, he learns that certain facts aren't adding up, and Vincent's killer may be after him, too. The person determined to find Vincent's killer is one LAPD Detective Harry Bosch, who has to fight his natural distrust of lawyers when dealing with Mickey. Bosch thinks nothing of using Haller as bait, but it doesn't take long for the two of them to realize that they are going to have to work together.

"That's my job, to forge the blade. To sharpen it. To use it without mercy or conscience. To be the truth in a place where everybody lies."

Haller's belief that "everybody lies" has the same ring to it as Bosch's "Everybody counts, or nobody counts." For years Haller has wanted just one thing: to defend a client who is really innocent. Walter Elliott may be that innocent client.

I enjoyed Connelly's intricate plotting of the book, of the way Haller took over a dead man's cases, made sense of everything, and began putting together his defense for his new clients. His handling of the egomaniacal studio head was classic at times, since Elliott was used to being the one who called all the shots. Haller didn't let him get away with anything.

I always have been-- and always will be-- a Harry Bosch fan, and there just wasn't enough of Harry in this book. He seemed to be brought in more for the shock value at the end than anything else. But setting aside the insufficient time with one of my favorite characters, The Brass Verdict is a smooth, brilliant legal thriller that shouldn't be missed.

Michael Connelly is probably one of my favorite writers and Harry Bosch one of my favorite detectives. It was a pleasant surprise to find him involved in this book. I was not disappointed with The Brass Verdict, great story as usual.

I hadn't ready Micahel Connelly in a while and totally enjoyed the lawyer and Harry Bosch a police detective with a less than friendly personality. Lawyer Mickey Haller hasn't practiced law in a while and when he suddently inherits a lot of new cases due to the death of an old associate, his life takes a new twist. Imagine entering the law practice after being away for a while and have to defend a rich and famous man accused of mudering his wife. Great book!
