Somebody recommended this book to me. I had a hard time finding the ambition to keep reading. The premise was good- a family takes in a little girl who was abandoned on a bus. Then the whole rest of the book I waited to finally get the closure what didn't happen until the very end. I'm glad I didn't abandon it, but I couldn't wait to be done so I could move on to something else.
Story of a woman who cares for a child lost in the shuffle of WWII London evacuations. I knew many children were relocated with extended family members, as well as with strangers, until the bombing danger in cities passed, but never realized what a toll this took on many of the children, and those who temporarily adopted them. Good, heartwarming story.
