I recently reread this book and I had forgotten how much I enjoyed the story. I am always the fan of the secret thief/spy and the fact that it was a woman made it even better. The hero is fabulous and well matched to the heroine. Good story!

Lady Sophia d'Artiers of Paris was 15 when she was sent to her mother's sisters in England after Sophia had a tragic love affair and her lover abandoned her. Years later, during the French Revolution, her parents, members of the French aristrocracy, have been imprisoned by the revolutionaries. Sophia becomes The Brazen Angel in London, carefully selecting her male victims, robs them of their jewels and then sells the jewels to finance the freedom of her imprisoned family members.
Giles Corliss, Marquess of Trahern, and a spy for England, is betrothed to Sophia whom he has never seen as this betrothal was arranged by Giles' dying father, and, although Giles doesn't want to marry anyone, agrees to do so as a matter of honoring his father's wishes. Sophia doesn't want to marry Giles so for their first meeting, she's in a disguise as a wimpy, sickly girl. Giles is appalled that his father could have selected such a creature for him to wed...............

Giles and Sophia are at odds from the start. With the French Revolution as a backdrop, Giles is certain the thieving Brazen Angel knows what happened to a fellow foreign service operative and Sophia is determined to get enough money to free her aristocratic family from prison. They lead each other a merry chase from England to France and back. Giles is unable to catch and unmask the beautiful Angel, and she is determined not to allow him to find out that under her disguises she is his betrothed. Follow them through the dangerous alleys of Paris as their ultimate goal becomes "discovering" each other. A delightful first book.
