I've lived in the South Pacific and found this novel SO true to what the Polynesian people are like - the attitudes, the speech, the characters. I loved this novel.
Filled with strong likable charactersit is a enjoyable read. It has laugh out loud moments as well as a quirky and sometimes colorful love story. 2nd book in a series
This is the sequel to Frangipani. In a review the Christian Science Monitor compares the character of Marerena to Alexander McCall Smith's Precious Ramotswe and I think it is because the author realistically captures the voice of someone from a culture we don't know much about. We like her and want to know her better.
