creepy and terrifying. Page turner that is difficult to put down. A grittier Steven King type book that closely approaches the line of too gross

I started this and it hooked me right away BUT about half way it just dragged out and when the children escaped from that point on I did a lot of skimming pages, from about halfway it just seemed to be the parents chasing the children page after page and even thought others things are taking place it just didn't hold my complete attention and I wanted to get through the pages quickly to see what happens so that by the end of the book I was disappointed with last half of the book and the way it ended.
