I am a new fan of Ted Dekker's while reading only 2 or 3 before The Bride Collector. It was VERY good but was disappointed that they let us know who was doing the killings about 1/2 way through the book. In my mysteries, I like it when i'm left guessing towards the very end, sometimes even second guessing myself. BUT with that said, I loved all the characters in this book--especially the 4 from CWI. All in all a good book from Ted Dekker and certainly won't be my last. Oh, for those of you that are a bit squeamish around blood mentions and violent killings, this won't be the book for you.

It jumps right in with both feet and in chapter 3 you meet the killer. The killers perspective is interesting since he is psychotic as hell but all the religious references are annoying. The killers doesn't provide any insight into why he's doing what he's doing other than it's God's will. You do find out in the end why.
I liked the mystery of who and why but I could have done with a whole lot less of the psychobabble from the inmates of the mental hospital. This went on again and again for way too long. I really thought Brad Raines was very wimpy to be an FBI agent. He definitely didn't have his ducks in a row. He was overly emotional which is so not a trait of a good FBI man. All in all, not my favorite Ted Dekker novel but not the worst either.

I have always loved Ted Dekker's books, but honestly, I thought this one fell short. I was very disappointed. It did not keep me on the edge of my seat like his writing normally does. I didn't find myself really caring whether any of the characters lived or died. I felt that the romance between Brad and Paradise was really stupid and over the top, and as a different reviewer stated, Brad seemed pretty stupid for an FBI agent too. I mean, compare this Dekker's book Adam, for instance. There really is no comparison between the two. Sure, there was a good message in this one, but it wasn't worth the crappy story. Ted Dekker, I really hope you're not losing your game.
This book was surprisingly a page turner for me. I thought it would be just another quick he did it, blood book but it twists adn turns and it became a "cant put me own" book. I highly recommend this.
I enjoyed the book but found it to be way over the top. For an FBI agent, the main character sure made a lot of dumb mistakes.
I enjoyed this book. The plot took many turns I felt were unexpected. A good mystery, thriller!
He picks the most beautiful, kills them and glues them to the wall in a bridal veil. He is sending brides to God. He believes he must send 7 in order to stop being impotent. Brad, of the F.B.I., appeals to a girl named Paradise who is in the Center for Wellness. She is unable to leave her familiar rooms. However, she and two other inmates help the FBI. In the process, Quenton sets his sites on the beautiful Paradise as his 7th and final bride. Very Good Story.
This 12 audio CD book is narrated by John Glover. It is a spooky story about a deranged serial killer and John Glover does a superb job of setting the scene. WOW. I especially enjoyed the way that John did the voices of the residents of the Center for Wellness and Intelligence (this is a private psychiatric institution). The residents are extraordinariy gifted - they are all extremely intelligent and equally wierd. One of the primary residents is a woman named Paradise. She is a schizophrenic who has the ability to experience the final moments of a person's life when she touches their dead body. What a story.
Ted Dekker is a very different kind of thrill writer. I enjoyed this book, but feel like there were a number of loose ends that were never tied up. He had a very interesting romantic angle, which I don't believe I've ever encountered before. I liked seeing the killer's view, but felt there was so much mental health discussion that sometimes the storyline got lost in it. Certainly a good book though.
While I read this whole book, I kind of skimmed parts of it. I really enjoyed the storyline between the main character and Paradise and the other folks at the treatment facility, I found the serial killer himself to be so creepy and evil it was just too much for me to read; the graphic matter-of-fact descriptions of him "drilling" the girls and draining their blood was just creepy as all get out. If not for that I would have rated it higher.
