Mercedes Alvarado was a half-English, half-Spanish heiress whose delicate golden beauty concealed a will of steel. She had survived the desertion of her husband, the scorn of his aristocratic family and the ravages of a civil war, holding together a magnificent estate until her soldier husband returned to claim it...and her. The dark and danterous man who rode home to that birthright touched her soul with fiery need. He was the husband of her heart, but was he really Lucero Alvarado...or a stranger with her husband's face?
