I thoroughly enjoyed this book about a spirited young woman (Tessa) in Napoleon-era France (then England) and her interesting and often stormy relationship with a man who is appointed to maintain her safety. I enjoyed how they marry for convenience and safety and their love develops later. The mystery in the background of the story, which provides the tension and keeps Tessa in danger, was interesting, and a different twist for a romance. It wasn't clear to me if this book was part of a series or an independent title, but it stood well on its own. I will definitely be looking for more by this author. She has a good touch with characters and with keeping things unique, interesting, and believable.

With his striking good looks, Ross Trevenan was one of the most attractive men Tessa Lorimer had ever seen. But five minutes in his company convinced her he was the most arrogant, infuriating man alive. That's why it was such a shock to discover Trevenan's true purpose: hired to escort her out of Paris and back to England, he had sworn that he'd do anything to keep her safe--even if he had to marry her to do it. Now, finding herself a bride to a devastatingly attractive bodyguard seems more hazardous than any other situation she could possibly encounter. Yet Tessa doesn't know that she holds the key to a mystery that Trevenan would sell his soul to solve...and a vicious murderer will kill to keep.

Picked this up at the thrift store and didn't realize that it was set in the 1800s. I usually don't like historical books but after I got in a couple chapters started to like it. By the middle I couldn't put it down and finished it in a couple hours.
