A nice blend of fiction and history. Light on romance, heavy on restrictions on Victorian-era women and the predominant belief in British/class superiority. Interesting lessons of the smallpox devastation to the native peoples in British Columbia. What really moved me was to see the actual list of names of the sixty hopeful brides who sailed on the Tynemouth. They were ahead of their time. 3.5 stars.
