This is a highly readable explanation of the rise, maintenance, and fall of the British Empire. The authors move crisply through the various parts of the British story, keeping the reader's attention throughout. The author did an excellent job with North America and Australia but less with India and Africa. This book is well-written and informative. It is a great overview of the British and their empire. In the book's conclusion, there was a fascinating discussion about the monarchy's future.
