I've been a fan of DK since I was 13 and probably too young to be reading some of his books. He's fantastic and I'm wondering what happened to him. There's just no way to get back the time I've wasted with this story. Reading this book was like trying to trudge through the snowstorm described within. I like Odd Thomas, and thoroughly enjoyed the last two books. This one is just plain drivel. Absolutely tedious.
I don't usually have to force my way through any of his books, and I skipped over 1/3 of this one. I've never read more run-on sentences of pure crap in my life. He goes on and on about going forward to go back, and how this attunes to that. Give me a break, already and get to the actual story. If I wanted a self help book, there's plenty here to choose from.

I liked this story of Odd Thomas better than the last book. I really enjoy Odd's personality. He is a humble hero, with a wonderful, yet simple, sense of humor. I love the way he interacts with people as well as with the spirits of those who are attracted to him after death.
A lot of this book is about his interaction with the residents, the nuns, brothers, children, guests, and spirits at the Sanctuary where he has retreated after his horrible experiences in the last book. While he is trying to shelter in this out of reach world, he again encounters the horrible bodachs that always fortell of tragedy, suffering and death. He has to try to figure out what is coming and how to stop it. With the help of a few trusted and quite memorable characters, Odd find himself once again in the role of a savior and hero.
The ending of the book makes it quite clear that Koontz is not finished telling us about the adventures of Odd Thomas and I for one look forward to more of Odd's tales.

Odd Thomas is sincerely one of the most likable characters I have ever encountered in reading. The Odd books manage to scare you, make you laugh, and to really root for the main character, all at the same time. The monks and nuns in Brother Odd are all lovable as well.

I just finished the book today. I have to say that I liked this book as much as I liked the book Odd Thomas. This was better than the second book. I am inpressed with how different it is.

I haven't read alot of Dean Koontz's work, but Odd Thomas has caught my eye. I have been hooked ever since. I know it might seem a little cheesy with another book about a person who can see dead people. Especially when he's also got Elvis hanging about him. Beyond all that the book is a great read and entertaining. I suggest it and the others in the series to all my friends to read.

Dean Koontzs Brother Odd is the third book in the Odd Thomas series. Like the first one, this book earns every bit of its praise but fair warning; this book like the first is a total tear jerker.
Odd has left his beloved home of Pico Mundo, California for a life of quiet and reflection at Saint Bartholomews Abbey in Sierra Nevada. His life can be a bit complicated seeing dead people and all. The Abbey houses a host of monks, nuns, and disabled children. Odd and one other man, a Russian Librarian by the name of Rodon Romanovich, are the only guests currently on the premises. The Abbey is where the entire story line starts and develops.
Odd sees what he calls bodachs. Shadowy figures that resemble humanoid wolves that usually foretell some sort of danger or catastrophic event. Within the first few pages of the book, Odd sees three skulking around one of the childrens rooms that house 2 disabled children. Annemarie and Justine. Odds first paranormal encounter after the bodachs lead him into their room is when little girl, Annemarie, seemed to be channeling the spirit in her sleep of Odds love, Stormy. This is the first part of the book I got a little emotional at, you relive the loss that Odd experienced in the first book when Stormy passed.
As the book progresses you meet a lot of interesting characters, most notably Brother John, a former physicist turned to the order after strange circumstances. When Brother John came to the Abbey, he came with 4 billion dollars behind him, and has continued some of his research there. The next fun character of note is Brother Salvatore (knuckles) that was an ex mob footman from Jersey. Koontz, as usual with the series, put a lot of thought into his interesting menagerie of components to weave Odds new adventure.
When the strange bone like structures (not humanoid at all) begin attacking shortly after Brother Timothy goes missing during a total whiteout of blizzard, the Abbey goes into barricade mode because Odd feels that the imminent danger revolves around the school and the children. The brothers and nuns band together armed with baseball bats and clever thinking to do anything necessary to save the small and innocent lives of those around them. When Jacob is introduced, a mid 20s man with autism and some (but not all) signs of Down Syndrome, the cause of these strange attackers become clear because of his clues through his drawings and short conversations he is having with Odd.
Through twists, turns, laughter, tears, and total disbelief that maybe one of their own is a mass murderer this book is yet another amazing read by Mr. Koontz and his unbelievable imagination and creativity whom I would recommend to anyone.

I liked the original "Odd Thomas" that was a super story. The second book in connection "Forever Odd" was okay but not as good as Odd Thomas. Now we have a 3rd one and it absolutely does nothing for me.
I don't recommend wasting your time on this book.

So far, this is the best book in the series for the creepiness factor alone. Odd Thomas is a genuine humanitarian which is really showcased in this installment. Among the monastery environs lies an orphage that caters to the severely handicapped. Odd's handling of these fragile children during the crisis is masterful and heart-felt. The plight of these children in the story (hell even in real life) is heart-breaking. It's embarrasing to know that we humans treat anyone like this especially those who need love the most.
The monestary is a weird place to have a total nut job but I guess even monks go bad. The bone creatures that are staulking the children are creepy as hell. It truly creeped me out to hear about these critters scuttling around and murdering people from the inside out. Yuk!

This is my favorite of the Odd Thomas series. Odd has retreated to a monastery to try to recover from the loss of his beloved Stormy. He feels evil about to engulf the place, which is also a home for disabled children, but in what way, and how can he stop it, if he can stop it?

I orginally bought this book first and had to go back and find the others before reading it. If you are searching PBS for an addicting read but never entered the word of Odd you have to give this one a try. You will be hooked and just a little bit charmed by the character of Odd.

This is the third Odd Thomas book. He is at an abbey recovering from his loss of Stormy when the bodachs appear. he has to help save the young helpless children living at the abbey school. Definitely a great Dean Koontz book

Another great book by Mr. Koontz! This is the third in his Odd series if I remember correctly. I love the character, Odd Thomas, created by Dean Koontz. For Koontz fans you will recognize the good verses evil, right verses wrong equation that he uses. All of the Odd Thomas books are amazing. By the time you get to this book, the character is well established. Odd goes to live in a monestary and runs into the ultimate nemisis! At this monestary there is a school for children, orphans, that also have unusual characteristics. The bond with the children is new with Odd. This is an amazing book that all horror or suspense fans should read. Enjoy the rollercoaster ride that is Brother Odd!

I enjoyed reading this book because today's society is into the pyschic world of paranormal. I try to read different types of books even though this book is not a book of romance but a thriller. Odd Thomas the pyschic that sees dead people or strong premoniton that something is about to happen. He pieces the puzzle together little by little until at the end there is a complete understanding. This book was at a Orphange Home at an Monastary or Church. An experiment that went unwary unknowingly to its creator, created an unearthly creature that wreck hovack at the Monastary. Thomas dared to try to correct the situation by getting involved to find out exactly what is happening. I liked the description, the epic and I am continuing to read all the books about Odd Thomas written by Dean Koontz. I have started my chapter with Twightlight Eyes. I hope it is just as good.

As a general rule, Koontz is fantastic.....However, this book had me yawning only 1/3 of the way through. The character is likeable enough, but the plot really has no depth, no substance. It's a classic "evil-thing-lurking-outside-ready-to-eat-everyone" story......But the most exciting part was Elvis picking his nose. And I'm pretty sure even that could've been more exciting.
Such a dissapointment after the other Odd Thomas books. The character is becoming difficult to believe, it lacked plot, and it was WAY too religious.

First, let me begin by saying that I am a huge Dean Koontz and Odd Thomas fan. Sadly, I found this book to be a little disappointing. As others have mentioned, it tends to get bogged down in detail and I found myself struggling to keep interested even 1/2 to 3/4 of the way through the book. By the time I got near the end, I did find it to be more interesting, but I did not feel that this book was up to Dean Koontz's usual standards. That said, I eagerly await the next Odd Thomas book.

Dean Koontz Does it again! Another wonderful book, this book is one of several in his Odd Thomas Series, its a very good read funny and entertaining.
Not nearly as good as his other books in general, and certainly not up to par with Odd's previous manuscripts. I was sorely disappointed with this book. I might chalk some of that to "the idea that the original is always the best." But it seemed he struggled to write this book.
He dove more into the details of sci-fi, such as quantom foam, that 90% of the population won't follow and just skim. Not enough about the --dare I say -- bodachs or the appearance of more plesant spirits. Even Elvis has barely a walk on role in this one.
In short, I'm glad it was a gift and I didn't buy it.

A great follow-up to Odd Thomas and Forever Odd. Koontz's character grabs your interest and his plots constantly surprise.

just couldn't get into it at first but I did force myself to finish it which i am glad...not my usual type of book but definately interesting
I liked the stories intertwined into the main story. The previous lives of the many characters, but if you have read the previous books it becomes repetitive, the constant reminders of what happened before.

Had to get the hardback the week it was released...
I just can't get enough Odd Thomas. This book doesn't disappoint. It is on the edge of your seat continuation of Odd's trek through life with interesting people, events and places. It is never a dull moment. I struggle with putting these books down. I want to drag it out and enjoy it for a few days but I end up reading and doing nothing else and its over in two days. Great sequel.

Odd Thomas is as likeable a character as you are ever likely to meet in an unlikely story. Fortunately, my last English teacher will never read that sentence!
Odd Thomas is a pleasant young fry cook, of all things, and has occult tendencies that lead him into unlikely places such as a monastery high in the Sierra Nevada mountains. The story is filled with shadowy beings and occupants of a vague in between world.
All in all, a good, different, entertaining yarn.

Although he's not taking his vows, he's been enjoying the peace and quiet--and relative safety--that being with these brothers and sisters of Christ has brought. He's also enjoyed the numerous children who live there, those who are physically or mentally handicapped, abandoned by their parents, sometimes even suffering at their hands.
Then, as always seems to be the case with Odd, the bodachs show up, and he knows that something bad has come to the monastery. This is the worst book I have read by DK, The Taking was a close runner up. I usually love his books, maybe he needs to take a break.
An "ok" book. Quite unbelievable and requiring a further stretch of the imagination than reasonable in my opinion, I still found it hard to put down at times. I much preferred the first in this series (Odd Thomas), but am still glad I read this one.

very boring for could not get into this one for I read the first 99 pages and could not get into this one for it just seemed to drag on and one and very slow. good luck with this one folks.

The Odd Thomas books by Koontz are some his best!
I liked the blending of humor and suspense in this story. Kept my interest and I had a hard time putting it down from start to finish.
Odd Thomas is living in a monestary. He enjoyes the monks and nuns, and for a while he has peace with a dog named boo and Elvis the the King of Rock and Roll.
One day, in the children's quarters he see's those harbringers of doom, the Bodachs.
They always signal violence and death,.
Sure enough, a monk ends up missing and Odd trips over him,
When they find him later, he is changed and demonic.
