This is a well researched book interweaving history and fiction regarding the Holy Shroud of Turin. It trails off a bit at the end but overall, an enjoyable read.

very good theory of the shroud and its history; good mystery

I was disappointed in this book. The author sets up the story beautifully with a good cast of characters, great back story and a mystery and then utterly fails to deliver. I'm not really sure where everything went wrong. I think it was in the lack of growth that she gave the characters. I'm not sure. The book is translated so maybe it lost something in the translation. I was constantly hoping that it would get better but it never did. The one good thing that I did like was the author's take on the Shroud of Turin. That was a very well thought out plot. The rest just never did anything for me.
A fire at the Cathedral of Turin and the discovery of a strangely mutilated body attract the attention of Italy's special Art Crimes Department. Chief Marco Valoni leads a crack team of investigators in a race to solve a crime he's certain is about to shock the world--someone is planning to steal the Holy Shroud.

Good historical fiction. Similar to Da Vinci Code.
