Very good book about the differences and similarities that poor black and white peolpe have.
This book made me a fan of this author, it is a long story with intertwined characters but I thought it was an accurate characterization of issues that can arise among races
I had to read this book for a college class (I was lucky, nearly every book I had to read for college was good). Since that was a few years ago, I don't quite remember everything about the book, but I remember liking it quite a bit and reading it rather quickly.
A riveting tale of two women--one black , one white,-searching for love and happiness, and trying to bridge the cultural gap to become friends.........a truly great read
The author explores the relationships of black and white, male and female in the business world. Can friendships cross these differences or are they barriers? Charaterizations are even handed and realistic...helpful insights!

This one hits all the dilemmas of an African-American woman in middle management in corporate America - developing white friendships, being torn in those friendships when race becomes a factor, the fine-line definitions of sexual harassment, trying to help and hire other African-Americans, trying to support other African-Americans who have "made it" and may have forgotten how to help others, develpong romantic relationships with men with lesser educational backgrounds, trying to understand the African-American male preference for the white women, dealing with how much power one doesn't have in the final analysis - it's all there. A great book!
