Enjoyed the book for what it was worth but not going to run out and buy a whole lot of Lawrence Block books -- just not the typical reading style I like - but was an easy read to get through.

Bernie Rhodenbarr is a burgular. His dentist knows it and wants a favor. As Bernie prowls the dentist's ex-wife's home, liberating her jewelry, he finds himself locked in her closet. Things go downhill from there.
A light read. Clever writing.

This was a fun read. I have really enjoyed this series so far! I thought the book was going to be predictable but it wasn't at all. I think its great how Bernie makes fun of cops and makes them all seem like complete idiots. I also enjoy how he is James Bond-ish in the sense that he has a different woman in each book. I can't wait to read the next book in the series! :)
5th Bernie Rhodenbarr mystery - the bookstore owner burglar finds a dead dentist during a robbery. Great fun...

Light-hearted crime where the burglar is the protagonist, and a good guy!

The "Burglar" series is excellently written and great fun -- a good combination of who-done-it and humor.
Bernie Rhodenbarr is back with another adventure, this time he is doing a favor for his goofy dentist. The dentist (to the elite) has divorced his trampy wife and in the process, lost everything including a fortune in jewels that he gave her throughout the marriage. He suggests Bernie break into the house while the ex-wife is gone, recover the jewels and he will cut Bernie in for a large percentage. The dentist is so annoying that I, personally, would have shot him first! During the robbery, the wife returns and Bernie quickly hides in the closet where he cannot see but only hear what is going on. He finally manages to escape after a murder occurs, without the jewels! Soon he is charged with the murder AND jewel robbery. Will his wits and cunning be enough to save him while eluding the police? The ending has a nice unexpected twist of why. Very enjoyable tale. As usual, Bernie is a hoot!

One of the earliest Bernie Rhodenbarr books. He is one of my favorite characters-a thief with scruples and a reflective mind, comfortable in his "badness".

Bernie was busy burgling the Gramercy Park apartment of his dentist's estranged wife Crystal (at the dentist's request, of course!). He was leisurely tucking cash, diamonds and other jewelry in his briefcase when he hears Crystal's keys in the front door. He hides in the closet and becomes hopelessly tangled in a rack of designer dresses. By the time he gets free, his briefcase is gone and Crystal is dead. Now Bernie is wanted for murder!
