I love all the books in this series about a "bookie" who runs his bookstore by day and burgles by night. The library in this title refers to the very high class one at Cuttleford House, an expensive faux English manor house in New England. Bernie finds his book--and a murderer.

A hilarious send-up of British country house mysteries, starring everyone's favoite burglar, Bernie Rhodenbarr, aided and ably abetted by his best friend, Carolyn.

Love ernie Rhodenbarr... A heartbroken Bernie goes to spend a weekend at a cozy New England Inn, not only to recover, but to sleuth out a rare book that might be ripe for the taking. When Bernie's ex-fiance, newly married love shows up, things heat up...

Although Bernie Rhodenbarr had planned a weekend away with his lady love, Bernie was still thinking of it as a working weekend. When she informs him that she will be using that weekend to marry someone else, Bernie decides to go on the holiday anyway. After all, the signed first edition of Raymond Chandler's "The Big Sleep" is still at the house, just waiting for Bernie to steal it

In many ways, I think this one of Block's best stories about Bernie. Not just for humor, but also because in a clever, round-about way, it parodies one of Agatha Christie's more famous novels.

However, I only gave it 3 stars due to its unnecessary vulgarity. Did Block really need to describe Bernie using a shoe to urinate in? Or Bernie's urge to defecate? I could excuse Bernie having sex with a married woman---not his wife---on her wedding night, but the description of his lesbian's friend orgasm against Bernie's leg was totally unnecessary to the story.

I hope we don't see more of this in the "Bernie" novels I have yet to read.
