Sara Paretsky just keeps getting better.
A good mystery.
If you like hard-boiled weman detectives, Youll like V.I. Warshawski. This one's all about family.
Someone knocking on the door at 3 A.M. is never good news. For V.I. Warshawski, the bad news arrives in the form of her wacky, unwelcome aunt Elena. The fire that has just burned down a sleazy SRO hotel has brought Elena to V.I.'s doorstep. Uncovering an arsonist - and the secrets hidden behind Elena's boozy smile - will send V.I. into the seedy world of Chicago's homeless...into the Windy City's backroom deals and bedroom politics, where new schemers and old cronies team up to get VV.I. off the case - by hook, by crook, or by homicide.
This is the first I've read of this author. The private eye Victoria Warshawski is very convincing character as she investigates the arson of an SRO where her aut Elena was living.
V.I.Warshawski goes into the seedy world of Chicago's homless and into backroom deals and politics.
I enjoyed this book in the series by Sara Paretsky about her detective in Chicago, VI Warshawski. You might remember a movie made in the late 80s featuring this character. Don't let that stop you from reading the books which of course are so much better than any movie. Good character development, realistic cases to solve and a female protagonist who sometimes doesn't learn from her mistakes.
Another great read in the series. It kept me guessing who it was til the end.
Action packed mystery adventure with V.I. Warshawski, private-eye. I love these books!
The 6th book in the V I Warshawski series, one of my favorites.
Received from mother-in-law, never read...not my type of book

A good, fast-paced read. Is there a more stubborn fictional female detective out there? W.I.'s got guts!

I didn't think this was one of her best, but I did enjoy it enough to finish it.
