I enjoyed this book and found both main characters likeable and compelling. Some reviews on other sites were less favorable, complaining that the male character's actions constituted emotional abuse and ruined the story. I didn't find this to be the case. Yes, Jake was very much an alpha male determined to get his way (and to protect those he cared about). But I thought the female character, Emma, was smart and strong as well. I never found her to be a down-trodden, manipulated "little woman".
The speech, actions, and romantic encounters had a much rougher, more earthy tone than Feehan's Carpathian's with their old world charm. The story kept me interested and I'd recommend it to others.

Chances are this is a book that you will either love or hate. The hero is an extreme tortured alpha male who is dominant and controlling. The sex is hot but rough. If those things bother you, skip this book. For myself, this is one of Feehan's best books in quite sometime. The emotional intensity that has been missing in her Carpathian books is here in spades.

imagine my suprise when i found a copy of this book at my local rite-aide pharmacy, i grabbed it in my hot little hands and speed to the checkout. i raced home to read, and i didn't put it down, i fell asleep with it in my hands.
Feehan did it again, i loved the first leopard book she did and was waiting for another and it did not disapoint, i dont want to say too much but i really enjoyed this book, her dark series to me were becoming soso. but this book redeemed her to me.

I have been a fan of Christine Feehan's books for a long time. There are so many things I could say about this book, but I'll try to keep it short & to the point. I loved Burning Wild. LOVED it.
Jake is such an intense, dominating, possessive, protective hero. Some of the things he said and did almost crossed the line (for me). Almost. If you keep in mind the first chapter of the book and what his life was like up to age eighteen, you really can understand why he is the way he is, though. Add in the leopard traits that he has - there's no way he could be any different. Jake is the epitome of a tortured hero, but he knew from day one that he worshiped Emma. She was IT for him and he never wavered in that.
Emma is the perfect match for him. She is innocent and vulnerable, yet strong enough to match him and not take his crap. She is the only person to stand up to him and get away with it. She sees Jake for who he really is, she sees through all of his smokescreens to the man inside and is always there for him, always accepting of him.
I can't wait for the next book in this series. In my opinion, this book was far, far better than Wild Rain (although I admit I liked that one, too!). Excellent!

LOVED IT. I can not say enough great things about this newest addition to the Leopard series. Some will be offended by the child abuse in this book, but it happens and maybe it will enlighted us enough to look for more signes in our own society. I read it in one day. I can not wait for another. Jake is a believable hunk who is looking for revenge, Emma is the one that captures him. This is better than Wild Rain and I really enjoyed reading it. 5 stars from this reader

I enjoyed this book more than the first book in the series, "Wild Rain" about the Leopard people. It takes place in Texas rather than the rain forest. It is more passionate and sensual. Feehan continues to write good paranormal romance, following the Drake sisters and Carpathian novels. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys this genre.

This is an alpha male who is a shape-shifting leopard, Jake Bannaconni, who has money and power and hires a hurt an lost woman Emma Reynolds who is a shape-shifting leopard as well but doesn't know it. He accepts her, her child and asks her to help raise his own child. He never lets on that he is attracted to her and after 2 years of fighting the attraction she is ready to move on because he won't show her. It is an intense story and even more intense sexual tension. I love the sex scenes, they are truly nail biting and rereadable. I highly reccommend.

An abused boy grows up to be a very strong ruthless man, always in control. When he meets a woman he wants he makes sure he can have her by doing everything he can to make her dependent on him. Only she sees him as he truly is and teaches him how to love. The drama of his past life encroaches on their current life and he fears losing her. But she is stronger than that and decides nothing will make her leave him. The fact that they are both leopard both endangers their family and is the salvation of their family.

In my opinion, this book puts Christine Feehan at the top of the list of paranormal, erotica, romance and suspense writers in the market.
Fair warning: Not for all romance readers - very raw and anyone sensitive to child abuse will have a difficult time during the overview of Jake Bannaconni's childhood. I am very sensitive and for me it was heart-breaking and difficult reading, but excellent in drawing an accurate portrait of the man/animal he becomes.
It's been years since I read Wild Rain, but I remember Drake and was excited to see him in the story.
Very well written, passionate, intelligent, engrossing. I loved it. Highly recommend - don't miss this one - but note my warning.

I was grabbed from the first chapter. I just had to see Jake survive the abuse and with 443 pages, I just knew his was going to be an amazing story. Boy was I wrong. I felt that the story dragged on and on, never seeming to get to the conflict. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it tremendously but it just seemed stalled in their hum-drum existence. All Christine Feehan's other shifter novels had a "quest" of some sort so the characters are working towards something. This one didn't. Jake and Emma, who are attracted to each other but denying it, are just waiting for disaster to strike and 300 pages (or so) in, it finally does and boy did the story heat up then.
The erotic elements seemed to go further than Ms. Feehan has taken her characters before. It felt more like a Lora Leigh Breed's novel than anything written by Christine Feehan. In my opinion, the first sex scene bordered on rape not romance. Jake was absolutely brutal to Emma. I found this extended scene to be rather disturbing. I don't find forced sex to be romantic or an enjoyable storyline. They jumped from no relationship right into very kinky sex.
I kept reading this (even though it did take me an unheard of 6 days to complete) because I really felt for Jake as a child and wanted to see him get his revenge/vengeance on his parents. What they did to him was criminal and I guess it somewhat explains his behavior. Definitely not my favorite Christine Feehan story. I hope [book:Wild Fire|6696843] is written in a different vein or I'll have to pass on this series.

A really intense book. Keeps you on the edge.
easy read can stand alone
Losing the person you thought you would spend the rest of your life with is always hard. But making something that seems impossible work is harder. Especially when it's with the person you were born to be with. Christine Feehan brings the characters in this book alive. You experience their emotions as if they are your own. Packed with action and sensuality this book is a definite Must-Read!
I loved this book and could not put it down (actually I reread it twice). Most of Feehan's books seem to jump right to the relationship by chapter 3-4, yet this one seemed to have a cat/mouse feel so you could see both Emma and Jake toying with each other until chapter 11...and then hold on. What a sensual story!
A fast paced book
This book kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time i was reading it. Very good read.
If you haven't tried Christine Feehan, you don't know what you are missing. This is one of her Leopard people and it is very entertaining. There is suspense and hot romance.
Christine Feehan has done it again. She is a gifted author. The alpha male and the strong female in the book struggled with many different issues, but Feehan addressed them fairly. I, too, read the book in one day. Looking forward to the next book by Feehan. I've enjoyed all of her series.
Feehan has done it again and I AM HOOKED! Her Leopard men are as brave, sexy and aluring as her Carpathian Vampires!!

Another intense page-turner for Christine Feehan. I loved the tortured hero attempting to overcome a life long history of abuse and struggling to not succumb to the warmth and love of the heroine... Jake was a hard, manipulative control-freak, mostly because he didn't know any other way to be, and Emma went ahead and did what she felt was right. Was she intimidated? Yes. Did she cave? No. Did our hero fall for her and the children? Completely.
Warning, there is a lot of violence in this book including multiple scenes of child abuse in the hero's past as well as murder and attempted rape. The hero is also a little east of kinky...

love the leopard books, want to cuddle up with one myself!
I really liked the book. I just realized that none of the books are really related at all. But I enjoyed it just the same.
another great one by feehan
I liked it. Once my sister finishes with it it will be reposted
It was a long time coming for this book. I could not put it down until finishing this one. I just hope MS Feehan doesn't keep me waiting for the next one as long as I did for this one. Believe you could read this book even if you have not read the first one in the series because it is so much different then the first. Set more in America and around Jake the main human/leopard.
Could not put it down!!! I love Feehan! HOT! HOT! HOT! Wow
Great 3rd story on the leopard people!
I really enjoyed reading this book. I had read an exerpt from it a couple of years ago, but couldn't find it. It was well worth the wait.
Jake is so dominate and yet you can see his two sides at war with each other. You can also feel the emotion involved. A very good read.

THIS BOOK MADE MY SKIN CRAWL AND WAS VERY SEXY, BUT TO DRAWN OUT WITH HOW THIS PERSON FELT THIS WOULD GO ON AND ON FOR PAGES.
Another great story. Loved all the characters.
