Oh the things I could say about this man. Do you have some time? This may take a while.

Tim Burton. My shining star. My idol. The one person on the planet I love more than my children. Just kidding, sorta. I tried getting my hands on this book for years. Every time I went to a book store they didn't have it. I didn't want to order it online because I'm cheap and I think $15 is just crazy for paper, even super awesome amazing paper that contains intimate details of my favorite persons life. So I waited oh so patiently, and fate helped me out eventually. The first day I started working at Books a Million I was told that we could check out books. What did I do? Immediately run to the computer and see if we had a copy. We did, and I read it within a few days. This book changed my life.

It starts with a foreword from Johnny Depp who I have grown to love and respect even more not only because of his acting, but because of his deep connection with Tim Burton. They understand each other and have the type of relationship that is hard to come by. If I was given the chance, I would fit right into their little twosome (not like that, sickos) and we'd all be besties for life. Not kidding, it would totally happen. Anyway, I'm getting distracted. Depp is witty and entertaining and I really hope the man writes his own book one day because I would definitely read it. He's a rare soul, like Burton, and I friggin adore their friendship! I hope that someday I can find a friend that I can share that type of connection with. I thought I did once, but I was dead wrong. But I haven't lost hope.

This book is basically a series of interviews with Burton where he describes his early work with Disney and how he came to be the man he is (or was, since it's now 6 years old). It tells inspiration for certain projects, what he was feeling when he drew some of the things that inspired him, a little insight into his movies and other details you really can't find anywhere else since he's such a private person. Being the biggest Tim Burton fan ever (it's true) I take any opportunity I can to dive into his mind and this was the right direction in which to do that. While I could never possibly know enough about him, this was a stepping stone that I couldn't be more grateful for. I really hope there's an updated version in the works because there is no sign of him stopping any time soon and I simply must know everything I possibly can about him.

I love Tim Burton. I love everything about him. I think he is the most brilliant creature that has ever been created, and I'm going to be heartbroken if and when he meets his end. Seriously, it's going to be like my dog died. My phone will be shut off, you won't see me online and you will probably find me in my dark room under the covers listening to depressing music and sobbing. So FYI, be prepared for that. As if anything will ever happen to him, I'm convinced the dude is immortal. But yeah, this book is a must read for any fan. If you love his movies, his art, or anything else about him, this book is for you. Even if you don't, read it anyway. Maybe your kids love his movies. Maybe you don't like any of them and you think he's a douche. If that's the case, stop reading right now and go jump off a cliff. If you don't have the courage, let me know and I'll give you a friendly push.
