Despite its grim topic, and just as in the Child Finder, Denfeld has woven a tale that reads like pure magic. I am glad, however, that The Butterfly Girl doesn't focus on another newly abducted child because my heart couldn't take another tale like that. Instead, we learn about abused but still sweet Celia and her struggles with homelessness while still being protected by unseen forces. At the same time, we learn about Naomi's sister's captivity and how she coped all those years. Do yourself a favor, though, and read these in order to capture their full essence as they are closely linked. The Butterfly Girl is a beautiful reminder of hope, resilience, and perseverance. A must read! 4.5 stars.
