I think this is one of the best in the Kinsey Millhone series. Good characters, gripping writing, clever ending. In later books/letters, I think Grafton loses some of the creativity and drive seen in the earlier books.

Good story that keeps you guessing. I liked this more than A or B.

Interesting twist in this Kinsey Millhone mystery: about a third of the way through the book, Kinsey's client Bobby Callahan dies in an auto accident. Bobby originally hired Kinsey Millhone to investigate a near-fatal auto accident that he was involved in about six months previously. Bobby felt that someone staged the first car accident in an attempt to kill him. Convinced that Bobby's death might not be an accident, Kinsey continues the investigation to search for the truth about Bobby's death.
And is there something suspicious about Kinsey's landlord Henry's new lady friend Lila Sams?
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was a good mystery and I also enjoyed the continuing development of Kinsey's character and her friends in santa Teresa.

It was a good book, however I was disappointed with the fact of how the Kinsey and Bobby both told everyone that he suspected someone tried to kill him AND that he hired Kinsey to find out. I felt that was a major no-no in that type of business. Even though I shook my head in disbelief each time the comment was made it was still a good read.

A short, fun read. This book zooms by as a fascinating study of human nature and ends with a big, scary bang. A great cast of characters entertains and adds plenty of smoke and mirrors for readers to puzzle their way through.
