"...winner of the Edgar Allen Poe Award for Best Crime/Mystery book of 2005...

This book is, without question, exceptionally well written. Walter is a truly gifted writer who knows how to write dialogue and create truly original characters. This is a very clever, funny book involving two-bit criminals, very similar to what Elmore Leonard writes (but better, in my opinion)." amazon review

In the same genre as "Pulp Fiction." Dark, witty, brutal, funny, completely entertaining with a real ending and a moral lesson learned. JS

Really a great, kind of offbeat book. Making donuts, the mafia, witness protection, poker, the Carter/Reagan election. It was actually fun reading this book, even though some of the topics were serious (the main character is, after all, running from the mafia and has a contract out on him!). Plenty of twists and turns. A mystery with a quirky sense of humore. I highly recommend this enjoyable book!

Not a great mystery but the characters are interesting and after awhile one becomes interested in them. The story itself is pretty lame.

Good, quick read... though not in an John Grisham way. An interesting character, w/o being too overtly literate, narrates his predicament throughout the novel. A thriller with a plausible plot structure and not too much forced dread.

UNABRIDGED AUDIO 8 CDs: CITIZEN VINCE is an excellent, well narrated story by Jess Walter, one of my favorite authors. I recommend this book to anyone who likes solid writing with a humorous edge and a thoughtful premise, good characters, and a spot-on narrator, L.J. Ganser. Jess Walter also wrote BEAUTIFUL RUINS and FINANCIAL LIVES OF THE POETS--both terrific books. Can't wait for his next one!
