I don't know what I expected, but this book had it all. A chronicle of most of Tom Watson's career and the extraordinary professional and personal relationship that developed between Tom and Bruce over the years. The heartwrenching reality of dealing with ALS from the victim to those who loved him was also handled very well by the author. I highly recommend this book.

Heartwarming, heartbreaking story into the life of a premier PGA caddy struck down at 49 by ALS. The story is familiar to golf fans, but the look into how Bruce became a caddy, his lifetime relationship with Tom Watson, and his tremendous attitude were marvelous to read. Hard to read at times, as well.

When it comes to the game of golf, I'm a dilettante. However, like most people familiar with the 'big' names in the game, I know who Tom Watson is. I didn't know who Bruce Edwards was sadly until he was diagnosed with ALS - aka Lou Gehring's disease.

I've been a fan of Feinstein's writing from the time I read "A Season on the Brink" and have eagerly devoured more by him. "Caddy for Life" is another stellar effort. He's written a wonderful story about Bruce and his relationship with Tom Watson. One thing I didn't know was that Edwards briefly caddied for Greg Norman. The things you learn...

I truly enjoyed this book and learnt quite a bit about the tour and the fact that caddies are a lot more than the 'guy carrying the bag'. Bruce appears to be a giant amongst the other caddies on the tour - a vertible legend.

Sadly, Edwards lost his battle with ALS earlier this year (April 2004). However, this is a beautiful tribute to him and his legacy. I laughed and cried throughout the book. I know Bruce's legacy will live on - both on and off the links.
